I am amazed at my brain!
I love word puzzles like SpellingBee where you are challenged to make as many words as you can make from a random set of letters. Last night I was too tired to finish the game I had started and tried to fall asleep. But my brain, without any conscious effort on my part, literally began popping new words into my head. And that got me to thinking– if we are really committed to figuring something out (like I am committed to reaching the “genius” level in the game), our brains don’t necessarily turn off; they can and often do keep searching for answers completely outside our awareness. You’ve probably had this experience, too. It explains why I often woke up in the middle of the night with insights for my book that I had not thought of during the day. My brain had not gone to sleep; it was still working and it woke me up to say, “I have an insight for you–write this down!” Like an underground river, my brain keeps flowing, and periodically offers me a drink, even if I am not aware of asking for it. So I am thinking, what if we ask for it? What if it becomes an intention to ask?
There are people all over the world searching for ways to end war, feed the starving, and heal our earth from pollution. There are people right now both on the front lines and in lands far away, searching desperately for solutions to the terrible carnage in Gaza Ukraine, and other war-torn countries. I imagine their brains are hard at work 24/7, whether they know it or not. And I imagine many of our own brains are working right alongside them, perhaps offline, because many of us have lost hope that there is anything we can do.
BUT, there is evidence to the contrary! If my desire to meet the challenge of something as simple as a word puzzle is interpreted by my brain as an intention to solve it, and my brain immediately goes to work to find answers– imagine the power of collectively setting an intention to unearth the causes of injustice, cruelty, and war, find solutions, and ask our brains to focus in that direction. Imagine if we agree to be awakened from our sleep with the answers it gives us, share our discoveries, and work together to put them into action. Or work alone if need be?
Our own intelligence, combined with our love of life and our fierce will to survive and thrive, is our most valuable natural resource. It is a power far greater than fossil fuel, wind, water, and sunlight, and it exists inside us right now. We can start mining for this treasure today. It is sustainable, abundant, and free.
I came up with an affirmation I am going to say this week.
I’m turning on my brain to help us walk in love, commit to peace, and thrive on a green planet. I am listening for answers on how I can be of service, and I will share what I get.
Make up your own affirmation and please share what you get!!
Thank you for taking this journey with me. I’d love your feedback– thoughts, suggestions, feelings, and questions. Please visit me on social media or sign in to the Contact Me page on my website.
